16U BOYS - ONTARIO CHAMPIONSHIPS

A Golden Moment for the 16U Boys at Provincials.

B16UBLKGoldThe 16U boys struck gold at the Provincial Championships! It was a hard fought three day tournament for the guys.  The first day seemed to bring back memories from the beginning of the season; chemistry was nowhere to be found.  A rough day for the boys, and they knew they now had their work cut out for them.

Day 2 for the team was better than the first.  Unfortunately the boys lost a tough first match but as the day progressed they got better as a team.  They played hard and even though they won only one match for the day, they found their chemistry again and had it to battle it out in Tier 2.

Day 3:  All the hard work the boys have put in all season showed on this day.  There was no team that came close to them.  Every game was a blow out!  Their defence was impenetrable, their offence was unstoppable and errors were nowhere to be found all day.  Interclub was the first test and the boys passed with flying colours.  The Tigers made quick work of them winning 25-21, 25-23.  The next match was a little more work than the first, but they took down the Guelph Grizzlies 25-20, 25-27, 15-7 winning their quarter final match.  The Semis saw the Tigers setup to play the cross-town rivals, the Predators.  With the boys’ offence clicking, and their defence the best it has ever been, they established the tempo very quickly and had their way with the Predators.  The boys advanced to the finals winning 25-20, 25-19.

In the finals our Waterloo Tigers were matched up with Pegasus from Kingston.  Fresh off their domination of the Predators the boys never took their foot off the gas and took down their opponents 25-20, 25-9.

The Championships started off slow but the season and the tournament ended on a phenomenal note.

Thanks to all the parents for your support and thanks to the team for all your efforts this season.

Your coaches,

Kamp, Oroth and Aaron

BRONZE FOR THE 16U BOYS!

The Waterloo Tigers 16u boys team secured their spot in the OVA Premier Division at the first OVA tournament of the year, The Provincial Cup Championship West.  The Tigers started the day by taking care of their cross-town rival K-W Preds in 2 sets. Our next match was against the No. 1 seeded Niagara Rapids.  The boys fought through a tough 3 set match and came out on top.  With momentum on their side the boys faced a scrappy Barrie Elites team but a losing was not an option.  The boys finished pool play in first place.

In the playoff round the boys were paired up with the York Spartans.  With our goal within our sights the boys came out loud, focused and determined defeating them in 2 straight sets. In the semi final match the boys faced and very strong Pakmen team.  Fatigue seemed to catch up the Tigers in the match after playing at such a high level all day, we fell a little short dropping 2 sets.  The last match of the day was for a bronze medal versus a familiar Niagara Rapids team.  Once again the Tigers found themselves in a long a gruelling 3 set match and after some rest and refuelling the boys once again overcame adversity and came out on top winning the bronze medal.

Congratulations go out to our Waterloo Tigers 16u boys team from the coaches.  Special thanks to the parents who came and supported our team.

Player of the tournament goes to Ilija Lukic for his consistent play and leadership on the court.
