17U Boys Provincial Cup Zone A

Forest Heights C. I. was the location for the 17U Boys first tournament of the 2007 / 2008 season. The boys played well on Saturday, winning the majority of their day’s matches. Multiple combinations were tried and the results will help set the stage for the remainder of the year.

17U Boys McGregor Cup Tier II
There’s only one way to say it.  The 17U Boys team had a tough day at U of T Scarborough campus. Although the results don’t represent a lot of wins, the boys played very well at times, losing a number of very close heart-breaking games.

17U Boys US Nationals Bound

The Record.com Article

It was a great weekend for the 17U Boys team who competed in the 18th Nittany Nivitational at Penn State this past weekend.

For Saturday’s pool play, the boys were ranked third, but after an undefeated day, the boys held the number one spot.  By finishing first in their pool, the team guaranteed themselves a spot the following day in the Gold Bracket, the top bracket of the four brackets.  On Sunday morning, two matches were played to determine the team’s seed in the Gold Bracket’s sixteen available spots.  These hard fought matches went to three games, but in both instances the opponents came out on top. This placed the boys eighth out of sixteen, and set them against the Pakmen team, another Ontario team.

Unfortunately for the 17U Boys, the Pakmen were victorious, but this resulted in the team being offered the option to play for a berth to the U.S. Nationals in Utah, later this year.

There were four teams tied for two berths, so with nothing to lose, the Tigers accepted. The boys played the Rochester Pace, and in a thrilling come from behind three set win, (`22-25, 26-24, down 24-20, and 15-13) the team ended up tied for ninth spot in a thirty-eight team field.

The boys will be off to Salt Lake City Utah in July to compete in the U.S. Nationals, the first Waterloo Tigers team to accept such a bid.

Congratulations and the best of luck come July. (all match scores are on the team’s page)
