Ontario Provincial Championships Tier III

This TIGERS 1st year team finished off their season on a good note by placing 5th overall in the Tier 3 tournament.

Even though their record in match play was 5 wins and 1 loss for the weekend, they learned a tough lesson that you can’t lose the pivotal 1st game on Sunday if you wish to stay in the hunt for any color of medal. It was a tough loss to Akwesasne for the team to swallow but they managed to regroup and finish off strong.

After that defeat the TIGERS Red were to face their cross town rival, the K.W. Predators ’95 team. It was a totally amazing match with a gym full of fans and it went back and forth for all three games. It ended with a solo stuff block by Kristin Dlugokecki for Waterloo Region’s bragging rights.  This match really drained the energy of the Tigers but they were able to maintain composure to beat London Forest City for 5th place honours.

All of the girls should be commended for the efforts they put forth and they were able to raise their level of play to one that had not been seen this season.  Congratulations girls.

A special note to our winner of the “Award of Excellence” medal to our co captain, Ashley Smulders.  Congrats Ash!

Fun and Games

This rookie team faces their first challenge of the year on Sat. Nov. 10th at FHCI at a friendly exhibition tourney with other Tigers teams and a few out of town friends.

The Tigers Red ‘95/’96 team finished the day with 5 wins and 5 losses which is quite outstanding for the Club’s youngest team competing against older girls. The coaching staff is quite proud of the girls for not cracking under pressure and playing volleyball the way they should.

The following day after practice the girls are going to try their hand at Lazer Questing in a team bonding session.

This should help in preparing them for the Ontario Provincial Cup on Sat. Nov. 17th. at Jacob Hespeler High School in Cambridge.

Good Luck Tigers Red 13U Girls!

Saturday, November 17th

The two Tigers 13U Girls teams competed in this tournament at Jacob Hespeler S.S. in Cambridge.  This was a 16 team event hosted by the Tigers 17U Boys team.  Every team played a total of five 2/3 matches.  There were no playoffs.

The Tigers 13U Red Girls These young girls of ‘95/’96 birth years played great in spurts and not so well at other times. It was their first ever actual OVA tourney and one could see there was lots of “learning under fire” going on.

Overall the girls serving and play at the net (especially blocking) was superb.  They were deficient in their serve receive passing, which means a LOT of practice time will be spent on this facet of the game in the coming weeks leading up to their next competition on Dec 8th, again back at Jacob Hespeler S.S.  Of the 12 total games played, the girls won 4.

Not a bad start noting that the girls were right there in the majority of the games and were even closer competition-wise than some of the scores indicated.

13U Girls Challenge Cup Zone A
Both 13U Girls teams placed well in Sarnia this weekend. The 13U ‘96 Red girls team finished in a tie for 5th place, while the 13U ‘95 Black girls team placed second and earned themselves a Silver Medal.
