Tigers Black Keep Moving Up!

The Region of Waterloo Volleyball Club's 16U Tigers "Black" Girls team just completed another successful weekend.  The team entered Ontario Provincial Championships at the 16U Level as the #28 ranked team in the entire province and after three days of tough competition against the top teams finished by moving up 7 seeds to the #21 slot.  They were "oh so close" to competing for a medal but lost a close quarter final match to the Coburg Breakers who went on to win the silver medal.  Parents and coaches are extremely proud of what this team was able to accomplish and how they overcame many adversities to represent the Tigers as best as they could.  Many life lessons were learned along the way.  Way to go team!

The 16U Tigers see action again next weekend when they compete at the 17U Ontario Championships at RIM Park.  Good Luck Ladies.  Make us proud.

FINALLY GOLDEN!!2013gold-1

The Waterloo Tigers “Black” 16U Girls team travelled to London on Sat. March 2nd for the Forest City VBC 16U Invitational tournament at Montcalm Secondary School.  During original pool play action the Tigers Black defeated London Fire, FCVC Blue, London Sharks and Oakville Lakeside to finish in first place.  They then went on to play London Fire in semifinal action and this match went 3 games with the Tigers Black winning 15-11 in the third game.  This set up a repeat against a very strong offensive team in Oakville Lakeside 16U.  The Tigers Black was a determined bunch and won the final match with identical scores of 25-22 and 25-22.  The coaching staff is extremely proud of the Tigers Black for their first ever “Gold” medal performance in the two years they have been together.  This result came at a perfect time as the team is now preparing to compete in the 16U as well as the 17U Ontario Club Championships in April at RIM Park in Waterloo.  The girls thus far have had a very successful season and can’t wait to play in Provincials.  Good Luck Ladies!

“Silver Spikers Strike Again”

Congratulations once again goes out to the Waterloo Tigers Black 16U Girls team for bringing home their 3rd silver medal of the season after the January 19th 16U tournament hosted at the Stratford Agriplex.  This is a beautiful volleyball facility if you can overcome the amazingly good smells that drift over from the Stratford Market.

The Tigers Black 16U team started the day off strong by defeating the Oakville Eagles 16U, the Niagara Rapids 16U Blue and the Tigers Red 16U team all in straight 2-0 sets.  This result put the Tigers Black in first place in Pool A allowing them a break and to not have to play a quarter final.

The semifinal match saw the Tigers Black face off against Oakville Lakeside 16U team.  It was a well fought and well coached match with the Tigers Black winning it 15-10 in the 3rd set.  Lakeside is a very strong defensive team that move well and don’t allow any ball to hit the floor before a body does.  Coach Carole had her team prepped to play the Tigers Black but the offensive juggernaut and blocking specialists would not be denied a chance to make the finals.

This set up a potential war between the 1st ranked Tigers against the 2nd ranked Niagara Rapids Black 16U team.  Unfortunately for the Tigers they ran out of gas and could not sustain the constant pressure serving and pounding of balls from the Rapids losing two straight in the final.  The better offensive team showed their true colors and why they were the #3 team overall in the province last year.  Best of luck goes out to the “Silver Spikers” aka Tigers Black 16U Girls as they continue their season and look forward to participating in both 16U and 17U Ontario Championships.

A special mention and Thanks goes out to underage call up player from the 15U Tigers, Brittany Schmidt for helping us out due to a season ending injury to Brittney Covach.  Also to our “Player of the Day” Libero Maria Prudencio for her amazing passing clinic she put on in every match bumping perfect 3’s.

Way to go Silver Spikers!

Saturday, January 12th 2013

On Saturday January 12th, the Tigers Black 16U girls' team traveled to the big town of Wingham to compete in their 2nd @ 17U tournament - the McGregor Cup.  During original Pool play they finished 2nd in their pool setting up a match against Sarnia Twin Bridges who just came off a difficult win over Tigers Black 17U.  Tigers Black 16U won the match 2 straight and went on to face London Forest City Blue 16U in the semifinal.  The match went to 3 games and the girls worked hard to prevail and move on to their final match of the day.   In the gold medal match - they faced a very strong Chatham Ballhawks 17U who had just defeated Cambridge Scorpions 16U.  The girls played hard but couldn't mount much of an offense against their tough opponent.  Tigers Black 16U finished 2nd overall out of 9 @ 17U teams wining their 2nd OVA silver medal this year.  They won their first silver medal at the 16U OVA tournament in November.    Tigers Black 16U lead the club in medals won this season.

Congratulations girls, your coaches are very proud of your accomplishment.
Team Members are  Kaitlyn Bentz, Kelsey Caza, Brittney Covach,  Sophie Gadbois, Emily Kim,  Jessica Patterson,  Maria Prudencio, Natasha Quiring, Carly Stockdale, Sara Stojanovic and Brittany Schmidt (15U).

Weekend Wrap Up.

Congratulations to the 16U Girls Black team for winning their first and the clubs 2nd silver medal of the season!

It was a busy weekend for the Tigers Volleyball Club as 7 teams were in competition on Saturday.
The 14U Girls White competed in London where they finished 9th.

The 14U Girls Black and Red teams were competing in Cambridge, where they finished 7th and 9th out of 12 teams.

Both teams finished 3rd in their pool with the Tigers Red team matching up against the Halton Hurricanes 13U team in the pre-quarters and the Black team meeting Interclub Blue.  The Red team had a tough battle but ended up coming short 16-25, 14-25.  The Black team traded sets with the Interclub team winning the first 25-18 and losing the second 18-25.  In the third set a team with hunger showed up on the court taking down the Interclub blue team 15-5 and moving onto the Quarters where they would face the Rapids Black.  The Rapids Black showed their power and took down the Tigers Black team 9-25, 13-25.  A good day overall for the young 14U teams, who are back training for the next tournaments!

The 16U girls Black, Red and White teams were in action in Waterloo region on the weekend as well. The White team had a day filled with injuries and ended up placing 9th.  The Red team ended up finishing 5th while the Black was able to capture the silver medal.

The 15U boys team was also in action in Chatham-Kent.  The team had a good day overall, learning to play with one another and seeing what OVA volleyball is all about.  The boys finished tied for 11th after losing to the bronze medalists in the pre-quarters 11-20, 20-25.  They are now gearing up for their next tournament on January 12th, 2013.
